Our TPS programs help people through difficult or challenging times in their lives by caring for their beloved canines when they “just can’t”.

Canine Operation Freedom

CAFI honors and supports our country’s men and women in uniform who serve in harm’s way.  In support of their efforts, CAFI provides temporary housing (up to 2 years) for qualifying dogs of service members and their families who would otherwise be faced with surrendering their beloved pets to animal shelters during times of deployment.  Services are also available to US State Department employees with overseas duty assignments that are not dog-friendly.

Canine Safe Haven

CAFI partners with domestic violence shelters in the metropolitan area by offering temporary fostering for dogs.  Shelters provide a safe haven for victims of domestic violence on their path to a new life.  However, most shelters cannot provide for the family companion.  With so many decisions that need to be made by a family at this time, the care and safety of its dog should not be one of them. CAFI provides temporary housing for qualifying dogs for up to two months.  As a family begins their new life, their best friend will be there waiting to join them.  CAFI will also provide shelter to dogs whose families may have been displaced by fire or other natural or man-made disasters. 

This darling little girl was living in a car with her family who had recently lost their home due to the mom's loss of her job.  The family desperately wanted to keep their dog, but they didn't know where to turn.  Mom needed to find work, but could not leave the dog alone in the car while she went on interviews.  She could not afford doggy day care and was losing hope when CAFI stepped in.  CAFI cared for the dog for almost 1 month and brought her vetting up to date while Mom found a job and secured a safe place to live.  The family has now been happily reunited.
